Discussing a misunderstanding, stating "your phantom is all the time looking at me very coldly," and apologizing for the trouble she has caused. Discussing her dislike of people, stating that his like of people is something she wishes she also had. Asking him to never take himself "to the top of the cross" (to martyr himself?) again, wishing she had not seen it and noting that she does not like to think of it. Mentioning her intention to call on Mr. Caldwell.
